Thank you for taking an interest in Modular Railroading. Modular Railroading is a provider of how-to information and inspiration for modular railroaders. We provide articles, designs, and books about how to build modules and modular layouts.
Since our site launched in 2008, we have been constantly expanding our traffic and product offerings. We have received lots of positive feedback regarding the site and the book offerings - however the current operating team does not have the ability to continue to operate the site. We have decided to sell what we have put together so far and we are looking to find a buyer who has the enthusiasm for Modular Railroading to bring the site to its potential. The sale is of the Modular Railroading assets that have been built and include the website, books, and social networking community.
While this site is still very much in its infancy, there are many potential opportunities ahead for a buyer of Modular Railroading. Take a look at the offering below. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us with any questions. We hope to hear from you soon.
The assets that are to be included in the sale are as follows: the files for the Modular Railroading website, the domain modularrailroading.com, files for the books Modular Design Ideas, Module Design Templates, and Modular Railroading Handbook, administrative access to the Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter accounts. In addition, we will provide technical assistance for up to three months following the close of the sale to make sure the transition is completed smoothly. Since this is an asset sale, the buyer will be responsible for finding web hosting and finding their own advertising provider. At present, Google Adsense and Amazon Affiliates provides revenues from advertising.
Currently, all books are sold on-line through a number of channels. This includes a CreateSpace storefront, Amazon.com, and Barnes & Noble.com. Expanded distribution is also available making the books available to brick and mortar stores like hobby shops, although, that channel has not been pursued at this time.
At this point in time, most traffic is
generated through searches.
We did run an ad in Model Railroader in late 2008 and
early 2009 which generated a few more visitors.
For the most part, all traffic has been organic.
This presents a great opportunity to grow with an active
promotional strategy.
Modular Railroading does have a presence on social networking sites. The largest group of followers is on Facebook with over 700 fans and growing. The other sites include Twitter and YouTube.
With very little advertising, Modular Railroading has managed to grow in two key categories over the last two years. First is web traffic. In 2008, Modular Railroading received 2,204 visitors with 13,624 page views and then in 2009 grew that by 285% to 8,493 visitors with 49,512 page views. Currently, Modular Railroading is the #1 result for the search term "modular railroading" on Google which gets over 1,000 searches a month. In addition, the revenues from 2008 grew 254% in 2009 between a combination of book sales and Google Adsense revenue.
With such high growth potential, we feel that placed in the right hands this will be a tremendous asset. Therefore, the asking price for the Modular Railroading assets, listed above, is $2,500.
To put this asking price in perspective, we wanted to show the break even analysis for a potential buyer based on book sales. While the income received per book sale is variable based upon the channel it is sold, the approximate royalty per book is $9. To recoup your entire investment, that is 277 book sales. Based on a market of model railroaders in the United States of 150,000 people, that is only 0.002% of the market. A very reasonable figure based on the large number of people participating in modular clubs and organizations throughout the country.
